Step 1: Mark the Cable Holes

2. Mark Run Heights: Measure the height from the deck floor to the underside of the top rail, and subtract 2 to 2.5 inches of margin at both the top and bottom. Then divide the remaining space evenly (at 3 inches or less apart) to calculate your exact hole spacing and mark your points. 

Step 2: Mount Tensioner Kits on End Posts

2. Drill Pass-Through Holes: Drill straight into your marked spot halfway through the post from the front, then repeat from the opposite side to meet in the middle and prevent wood blowout.

3. Install Protective Sleeves: Insert stainless steel protective sleeves into both entry and exit holes.

Step 4: Thread, Cut, and Swage the Cable

1. Swage the Toggle Terminal: Insert the cable into the fixed toggle end and crimp twice with a hydraulic crimper. 

2. Thread the Cable: Feed the cable through all intermediate posts and put it hand-tight toward the opposite end post. 

3. Measure and Cut: Unscrew the turnbuckle body to extend it, and pull the cable hand-tight against the turnbuckle’s threaded swage stud. Mark and cut the cable cleanly at the midpoint of the swage stud using a dedicated cable cutter. 

4. Swage the Turnbuckle Stud: Completely unscrew the threaded stud from the turnbuckle body, insert the cut cable end into the stud, and crimp it 2 times with the hydraulic crimper.

5. Assemble and Tension: Screw the crimped stud back into the turnbuckle body, rotate the body with a wrench to achieve proper tension, and lock the jam nuts securely.

6. Repeat the steps above for all remaining cable runs.

Step 5: Tension the Cable System

1. Once all your cables are in place, begin tensioning each run from the middle cable outwards using an open-end wrench.

2. Tighten until the cable has minimal deflection (less than 1/4" under 50 lbs of force), then tighten the jam nuts to lock the turnbuckle permanently in place.
