Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Cable Railing on Wood Posts
Step 1: Mark the Cable Holes.
1. Apply Painter’s Tape: Run vertical strips of painter's tape along the center of your wood posts. This protects the wood surface and gives you a clear line for marking.
2. Mark Run Heights: Measure the height from the deck floor to the underside of the top rail, and subtract 2 to 2.5 inches of margin at both the top and bottom. Then divide the remaining space evenly (at 3 inches or less apart) to calculate your exact hole spacing and mark your points.

Step 2: Mount toggle turnbuckles on end posts.
